Does the Mag Hitch Pro Work on Aluminum and CarbonPro Truck Beds?

This is one of the most common questions we get, and it deserves a straight answer. Here's exactly how the Mag Hitch Pro works with different bed materials — and what to do if your truck isn't magnetic.

Steel Beds: Full Compatibility, No Modifications

If your truck has a standard steel bed, the Mag Hitch Pro works perfectly right out of the box. Press it to any flat steel surface on your bed wall, and the three 120-lb neodymium magnets grip with up to 360 lbs of combined force. This covers most full-size trucks including the Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra (non-CarbonPro), RAM 1500/2500/3500 steel bed, Toyota Tundra, Nissan Titan, and older Ford F-150 (2014 and earlier).

Aluminum Beds: Will Not Mount Directly

Aluminum is not magnetic — this is physics, not a product flaw. The 2015 and newer Ford F-150 switched to an aluminum body and bed, making direct magnetic mounting impossible without a steel surface to grip. If you have an aluminum-bed F-150 or any truck with aluminum bed panels, the magnets will not hold to bare aluminum.

CarbonPro Beds: Same Story

The GMC Sierra CarbonPro bed is made from carbon fiber composite, which is also non-magnetic. The Mag Hitch Pro will not mount directly to a CarbonPro bed surface. This applies specifically to the Sierra 1500 Carbon Pro trim and similar composite bed options.

The Fix: Steel Mounting Discs

For aluminum, CarbonPro, and any other non-ferrous bed material, Print Tweak Build makes a compatibility kit using 4-inch A36 steel discs with 3M VHB double-sided tape and Primer 94 surface prep. You clean your bed wall, apply the primer, press the steel disc in place, and the Mag Hitch Pro mounts directly to the disc. The 3M VHB bond is the same adhesive technology used in vehicle assembly — it's not going anywhere.

The standard Mag Hitch Pro uses 3 discs. The HD version uses 4. The discs sit flush against your bed wall and the result looks clean and intentional.

How to Know What Bed Material You Have

Check your truck's build sheet, owner's manual, or window sticker. The easiest test: hold a standard fridge magnet to your bed wall. If it sticks, your bed is magnetic and you can mount the Mag Hitch Pro directly. If it slides off, you need the mounting disc kit.

Bottom Line

Steel bed: order the Mag Hitch Pro and mount it in 30 seconds. Aluminum or CarbonPro bed: order the Mag Hitch Pro plus the compatibility disc kit and you're fully set up. Either way, the solution exists. Order at maghitchpro.com.
